A soul band and a teenage songwriter will be bringing Honley to its feet this summer.

Third Floor Soul is the headline act at Southgate Theatre on Friday, July 26, supported by singer songwriter Mason Whittle from Linthwaite.

Huddersfield-based Third Floor Soul formed in 2021 and has quickly risen to prominence as one of the north’s best soul and funk acts.

It features up to nine musicians and the music encompasses the hard dancing rhythms of James Brown through to the timeless melodies of Aretha Franklin, breathing new life into the classics. Their repertoire includes Motown, soul and funk classics.

They are supported by Mason Whittle, described by The Watershed live music venue in Slaithwaite as “a musician who crafts beautiful songs with a sophistication and lyrical wisdom. His masterful stage presence, paired with a truly captivating vocal style, has seen him wow audiences across Yorkshire.”

He looks like a young Ed Sheeran but self-taught musician Mason Whittle couldn’t play a note until two years ago – and now he’s on Spotify

Mason, 17, didn’t start playing the guitar until he was 13 but quickly became a familiar sight busking in the Colne Valley, was given his first performing break at the Northern Sole café in Slaithwaite and has never looked back. He’s released several of his self-penned songs on Spotify.

The doors open at 6.45pm with the music starting at 8.30pm.

Tickets are £8 in advance or £10 on the door and to book them go to https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/honley/southgate-theatre-honley-players/third-floor-soul-mason-whittle/e-lbpjqo
