If you go down to Huddersfield’s Piazza Centre you could be in for a big surprise!

Take a peek through the art shop windows and you might see some super-sized and colourful Snowdogs staring back at you.

Later this year West Yorkshire’s largest-ever public art trail Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees is coming to the district, to raise money and awareness for The Kirkwood.

Sculpture sponsors have now selected their favourite designs and 14 artists from up and down the country have already started work.

Kathryn Box, events manager with The Kirkwood, said: “It’s full steam ahead for us now with many of our artists coming to our collaborative painting space based at the Piazza Shopping Centre in Huddersfield to begin their work.

“Artists are already picking up their tools and starting to make their visions a reality. Our studio has become a really vibrant and friendly space, with many of our artists working side by side.

“If you are in the town centre, come and have a peek through the window. You might just see our magical Snowdogs coming to life before your very eyes.

“It is a really exciting time for the art trail team and we can’t wait until our Snowdog pack is let loose across Kirklees this September.”

Anticipation is building for Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees which will see over 60 Snowdog sculptures unleashed across Kirklees as part of a spectacular free art event for our whole community to enjoy.

Organised by The Kirkwood in partnership with Wild in Art and Snowman Enterprises Ltd, the Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees art trail is inspired by the much-loved animated film, The Snowman and The Snowdog, the sequel to Raymond Briggs’ classic picture book and film The Snowman.

This eight-week art event, which will launch on Friday September 2, will put Kirklees on the map, bringing an economic boost as well as much-needed funds for The Kirkwood.

It’s the first time a free public art trail has been attempted on this scale in West Yorkshire and businesses are now being given the unique opportunity to raise their profile by sponsoring one of the individually-designed Snowdog sculptures.
