People have the chance to learn all about bogs on Marsden Moor … and a whole lot more!

Sunday, July 28 is World Bog Day which will see the great bog weekend at the National Trust’s Marsden Moor Estate.

This free event will include a range of activities for all ages, giving people the opportunity to learn about and enjoy the moorland.

Event highlights include:

  • Explore the newly revamped information room packed with fascinating details about conservation work and watch videos about the Marsden moorland.
  • Tour the new sphagnum nursery and learn about this magical moss and its role in moorland restoration.
  • Moorland Themed Games and storytelling: Enjoy fun and engaging games that highlight the unique features and wildlife of the moorland. Listen to stories about the animals who live on the moor and enjoy themed colouring sheets and puzzles.
  • See real peat cores that are millennia old and learn more about what they can tell us about the South Pennines through the ages.
  • Visit the Bogtastic van from Moors for the Future which is equipped with artwork, sound and a spongy floor to replicate the moorland experience.

The event runs from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28 at the Marsden Moor Office next to the railway station in Marsden.
