On Sunday May 12, at St John’s Church, Golcar, Colne Valley Male Voice Choir hosts a very special concert, celebrating the legacy of legendary local pianist Keith Swallow.
Keith sadly passed away last year and this event pays tribute to his incredible 60 years as the choir’s accompanist by showcasing the beautiful grand piano he bequeathed to the choir in his will.
Featuring a mix of old favourites and new music from the choir, the concert will also showcase soloists performing a mix of vocal and instrumental delights.
The concert is an opportunity for followers of the choir to show their support for this renowned local organisation, which has been performing in the valley for over 100 years.
It’s also a great chance for anyone who has never heard them in concert to give it a try. Admission is open to all – no tickets will be sold. Instead, the choir will be asking audiences to ‘pay what you feel’ through a collection following the performance.
Musical director Thom Meredith (above) said: “It’s a new approach for Colne Valley MVC, but we wanted to make this special event as accessible as possible.
“We’re hoping to put on a fantastic performance that inspires our audience and encourages them to give generously! Every donation we receive will help ensure that the choir can continue its work bringing music to the community.”
Thom will be joined by current accompanist, Christopher Pulleyn (pictured top alongside Keith Swallow), who will be performing a Schubert impromptu piano solo, which was one of Keith’s signature pieces.
“It’ll be a really wonderful event,” said Thom. “We hope to see you there!”
The ‘Music & Memories’ concert will take place at St John’s Church, Golcar, at 2.30pm on Sunday May 12. All are welcome.
