Huddersfield Town fans are urged to do a 35-mile walk to an away game to raise money for one of Huddersfield’s most-loved charities.
The 2024/25 Walk4Pounds challenge is called Wander 2 Wanderers which gives a pretty big clue to the destination … Bolton Wanderers for the Sky Bet League One match on Saturday, September 14.
The event will raise vital funds and awareness for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Brackenhall.
The trek across the Pennines will include an overnight stay in Bury after 25 miles with the final 10 miles to the Toughsheet Community Stadium on the day of the game which kicks off at 3pm.
If people are unable to do the full 35 miles they can join the trekkers for the last 10 from Bury. All the walkers will take part in a celebratory lap of honour back at the John Smith’s Stadium before the home game against Northampton Town on September 21.
Huddersfield Town ambassador Andy Booth said: “Wander 2 Wanderers is the most ambitious walk we have ever organised and the very first to incorporate an overnight stay. We know that 35 miles won’t be for everyone so we’re happy to have the short 10 mile option also available.
“For anybody who has never taken part in one of our walks and are thinking of doing so for the first time, I can assure you that you’ll have an amazing time on both days.
“Although undeniably tough, you’ll feel a huge sense of accomplishment taking those final steps into Bolton on Saturday afternoon, especially knowing that it’s all been for such a good cause.
“We will make the most of that overnight stop too with my old teammate Iain Dunn joining us to host another of his interactive quizzes. Always a laugh with some great prizes to be won, you’ll have the chance to ask us both about our time with Town afterwards too.”
Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice chief executive Gareth Pierce added: “We support families facing or living with the loss of their child across West Yorkshire – no family should have to face the loss of their child alone.
“That’s why we not only provide expert clinical care and therapy but also a helping hand, listening ear and a place for families to be together to make the most of every moment.
“We start with what each family needs, offering them tailored support, and we’re always looking for pioneering new ways to support children and families. In doing so, we make a difference that lasts a lifetime.”
