Sanctuary Kirklees will be holding a Refugee Week celebration in Huddersfield town centre.

The event, in partnership with Shared Goods, West Yorkshire Print Workshop, Thread Republic, Maker World, Kirklees Local History Library and CollaborARTi, will be held in the Piazza on Saturday June 22 (12noon-3pm).

The theme for Refugee Week 2024 is ‘Our Home.’

Maggie Speight, of Sanctuary Kirklees, said: “From the places we gather to share meals to our collective home, planet earth, everyone is invited to celebrate what ‘Our Home’ means to them.

“We’re inviting people to come down to the Piazza and join in free, fun workshops, suitable for all ages, hosted by the many creative projects which call the Piazza their home in 2024.

“Our celebration will also mark Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month and be part of the Jo Cox Foundation’s Great Get Together, an annual gathering where people come together in a spirit of kindness and welcome, remembering Jo’s words: ‘We have more in common than that which divides us.’

“In these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever to remember Jo’s words and be kind to one another. Please come down and show your support.”

There will also be live gypsy jazz music, refreshments and a photography exhibition “A Kurdistan Homeland.”
