Red Dwarf’s Chris Barry is coming to Huddersfield in July.

The TV actor is heading to town for the seventh Huddersfield Comic-Con and is the most requested guest to date.

Chris Barry will be one of the headliners along with Transformers voice actor and Black Sails star, Mark Ryan, and Casualty and Holby City star Clive Mantle.

The event is held at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield on Saturday July 13, and comes quickly on the heels of Huddersfield BID’s Get Your Geek On event which is also helping put the town on the comic convention map.

The event takes in the full length of the Kilner Bank end of the stadium and boasts the most Transformers vehicles and life-size robots ever at one ComicCon.

These include the giant American truck that is Optimus Prime. Others include Bumblebee and Arcee both stars of this summer’s blockbuster film.

American Wrestling also features at this year’s event with huge photo opportunities from Harry Potter, Star Wars and more.

The event’s chosen charity is Andy Man’s Club and 50p from every ticket sold goes straight to the mental health charity.

Event organiser Martin Ballard said: “We’re delighted that the stadium have opened up this side of the ground for us to put on our biggest event yet.

“It’s all on one level to remove any accessibility issues that we had in the main stand – and to finally bring Chris Barrie to the event. Personally, I’ll be like a kid at Christmas!”

There’ll be another local star too. George, alias Baby Kong, who was ‘born’ at O’Briens Furniture Warehouse in Paddock. George is an 8ft tall talking gorilla who will be a roaring attraction!

Tickets are currently 25% off until the first 1,000 are sold with tickets also available on the day but they’ll always be cheaper online.

Tickets are available to buy at Diversions in the Imperial Arcade, Just Films in Market Avenue and online HERE.
