The formal announcement of the new Monarch – known as the Proclamation – will be given by Mayor of Kirklees Clr Masood Ahmed in Huddersfield on Sunday (September 11).
The Proclamation takes place outside Huddersfield Town Hall at 2pm and members of the public are welcome to assemble in Ramsden Street and the surrounding area.
On the day of the Proclamation, there will some disruption and road closures in Huddersfield town centre as official duties are carried out.
The following roads will be closed from 10am to 5pm:
- High Street with junction of Market Street
- Albion Street with junction of High Street
- New Street with Junction of Albert Yard
- Victoria Lane with Junction of Albert Yard
- Princess Street with junction of Peel Street
Free town centre parking has been extended to cover the period of the Proclamation.
Memorial services will be held in Huddersfield Parish Church and Dewsbury Minster after the Proclamation at 4pm on Sunday September 11. There will also be services on the eve of the funeral. More details will be released shortly.
The country is now in a period of mourning until the day following the state funeral. Flags on all four Kirklees town halls – Huddersfield, Batley, Cleckheaton and Dewsbury are being flown at half-mast.
