Poundland wants to open in the former Mothercare store on Huddersfield’s Great Northern Retail Park.
The Walsall-based retailer plans to open a store with a Pep&Co shop-in-shop, its popular fashion brand.
Pep&Co started as a standalone brand but really took off when it teamed up with Poundland. There are now around 400 Pep&Co shops inside Poundland stores across the UK, making it one of the fastest growing fashion brands.
Poundland doesn’t need planning permission to open in an existing retail store but has applied to Kirklees Council for advertisement consent for an illuminated sign on the front of the building.
Babyware chain Mothercare went into administration in November 2019 and all its stores were shut. It had been a much-loved retailer on Britain’s high streets since 1961.
