Parent Sanctuary hosted a special event aimed at promoting self-care and nurturing well-being.
The Parent Pamper Day was held at Denby Dale First and Nursery School and gave parents chance to think about their own health needs and how to incorporate self-care into activities suitable for children.
The group had conversations around what self-care meant to them and the children were free to play and socialise together.
Amy from both Calderdale and Huddersfield, and North Kirklees, Maternity Voice Partnerships, was able to get feedback to help improve future birthing experiences for parents.
One of the key discussions for the event was the importance of preventive healthcare, particularly in relation to cervical cancer screenings.
Mums often get the reminder letters and due to busy lives juggling the children’s needs, and having a lack of ad hoc childcare, they fail to book or miss their appointments.
Early identification of HPV through smear tests can help identify people who are at risk of cervical cancer, and early identification makes it much more simple to treat.
Rachel, of Daisy Rose Massage and Wellness, offered massages and Nicola from Beautylicious Garden Lodge treated neglected nails. Both gave their time free.
There was a special guest appearance by Mrs Asia GB finalist Tushita Chaudhuri, who shared her personal campaign to raise awareness for mental health issues, particularly among parents of young children.
Rachel Devereux, of Parent Sanctuary, said: “Huge thanks to TSL Supporting Communities for the grant that has allowed this day to happen, and to Beanies Bistro for taking the hard work out of food prep, giving us healthy and nutritious food that was in keeping with the self-care theme.
“We have one more event like this to go, so please check out our socials and booking page to see when it goes live! And, if you’re able to donate a few hours to help mums feel more alive then please get in touch.”
