Ollie Russon scored a brace against his former club as Golcar United came from behind to beat Goole AFC 5-1 at the Skye Direct Stadium on Tuesday night.

George Doyle, Adam Field and Buddy Cox scored the other goals as the village made it seven matches unbeaten.

Golcar started the game slowly, just as they did on Saturday, conceding an early goal. Lee Bradshaw lost the ball in the midfield and Goole hit on the counter and opened the scoring in the 5th minute through Sam Thompson.

On the half hour mark, Malakai Phillip burst into the box, reaching the byline and cutting the ball back to Doyle, who tapped into an empty net to make it 1-1.

Just two minutes later, the village took the lead when Field powered his header past the keeper and in off the crossbar to make it 2-1.

Another five minutes on the clock, and Russon scored his first of the evening. He received the ball on the edge of the box and his long range effort curled wonderfully into the top right corner leaving the Goole goalkeeper Dylan Hough with no chance.

With Golcar leading 3-1 at the break, they had made up for that slow start with three goals in a seven-minute spell.

Two minutes into the second half, Russon got his second goal, provided by Callum Petch who also recently joined from Goole.

With over 40 minutes still remaining, Golcar were still on the hunt for more goals, with the Goole players looking beaten.

It wasn’t until the 74th minute, however, that the hosts got their fifth of the evening, as Cox rose above the rest to head home Nicky Clee’s free-kick.

A few decent saves from the Goole goalkeeper in the dying stages of the game kept the scoreline to 5-1.

The Weavers are at home again on Saturday (March 2) against Knaresborough Town.
