New Mill Male Voice Choir is hosting a concert ‘Stars That Bloom’ to raise money for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

The choir will be joined by guest soprano Ann Wilkes for the concert at Huddersfield Parish Church on Saturday September 14 (7.15pm).

The title of the concert is taken from the poem ‘Forget Me Not’, written in 1841 by 16-year-old African-American Ann Plato:

“When the bright moon dispels the gloom,
And various are the stars that bloom,
And brighten as the sun at noon,
Forget me not.”

True to this sentiment, the concert will celebrate the best sung music of all kinds: classics, show tunes, folk arrangements and evergreen hits; bringing the power and range of the male voice choir together with the brightness of Ann’s classically-trained soprano voice.

Yorkshire-born Ann is a first-class graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music. A sought-after Oratorio singer, she also enjoys contemporary music and folk.

Tickets cost £12 and for more details and to book go to newmillmvc.org.uk/event/stars-that-bloom/
