Some of the finest musicians in the country are performing in Marsden this weekend.

The North of England Centre for Music and Arts (NECMA) at Standedge is welcoming a small group of principal musicians from the prestigious Orchestra of Opera North for an evening of Mozart on Saturday September 14 (7pm).

The programme will take the audience on a musical journey from the elegance of Mozart to the more modern charm of Hans Gál.

The players will be supported by the up-and-coming West Yorkshire ensemble, the Rossignol String Quartet, formed of musicians from NEMCA.

NECMA, which officially opened in the summer, offers a home for music, poetry, theatre and visual arts.

In addition to its role as an educational and performance venue, the centre features Hanson Music’s heritage crafts business, a local museum, a musical instrument collection, tourist information and a café and bar.

“We’re so excited about this event,” said NECMA director Alastair Hanson. “At NECMA we are passionate about bringing world-class performances to local spaces and making classical music more accessible to our community.

“By hosting renowned ensembles like the Orchestra of Opera North, we’re providing an inspiring platform for both artists and audiences.

“This recital is a perfect example of how music can connect us with history, while also creating new shared experiences right here in our own space.”

The programme includes Mozart Kegelstatt Trio K. 498 for clarinet, viola and piano, Hans Gál Serenade for clarinet, violin and cello and Mozart Flute Quartet in D, K. 285 for flute, violin, viola and cello.

Principal players from Opera North are:

Byron Parish – Violin
Anne Trygstad – Viola
Lydia Dobson – Cello
Luke O’Toole – Flute

Andrew Mason – Clarinet
Annette Saunders – Piano
