Lindley 10k on Sunday was the biggest and most successful to date – and plans are already in full swing for next year.

This year’s race was postponed until October due to the Covid-19 pandemic but next year it’ll return to its summer date with Sunday June 26 already in the diary.

Clr Cahal Burke, chairman at Lindley Community Group, said: “The Lindley 10k and Junior Run was our biggest to date.

“We had 100 entrants for the Lindley Junior Run and an incredible 625 entrants for the Lindley 10k race, despite the poor weather.

“Myself and the event organisers, Lindley Community Group, would like to thank everyone who made it such a success.

“We would like to thank our entrants, our supporters, our volunteers and our sponsors. We would also like to thank the Royal Air Forces Association, who were our charity sponsor this year and supported us in delivering the event.

“The RAF Association do important work in supporting and championing members of the RAF community, so we are delighted that they were able to fundraise.

“There is a lot of hard work in the background to organise the Lindley 10k and Junior Run and it simply wouldn’t be possible to organise these events without the support, hard work and tenacity of everyone involved.

“I would also like to thank Lindley Running Club for their support. They are affiliated with England Athletics and are also part of Lindley Community Group, who organised the Lindley 10k and Junior Run. Many of the Lindley Running Club members volunteered on the day, which is great.

“Organising the events required a lot of partnership working and demonstrated the benefit of working together.

“For us, these annual community events reinforce Lindley’s strong sense of local identity, pride and community spirit. It’s about local residents, community groups and businesses coming together.”

Winners all!

Clr Anthony Smith, secretary at Lindley Community Group, said: “We are already planning for the Lindley 10k next year.

“It will be the 9th Lindley 10k race next year and Cahal will also be the race director. We are planning for the annual Lindley 10k and Junior Run to go ahead in the early summer, when they usually take place.

“The events will take place on Sunday June 26 and entry is now open, at a reduced rate, which will increase every month up to the closing date in June 2022.

“We are also hopeful that the annual Lindley Street Party and Lindley Carnival will return next year, as they had to be cancelled this year. Of course, the events will depend on the Covid-19 situation.

“Again, we are enormously grateful for sponsors and will be looking for sponsors again next year.

“Check the Lindley Community Group website for updates about next year’s Lindley 10k and Junior Run (www.lindley10k.org.uk/).”
