Laurence Sorhaindo scored his first goal for the club to set Emley AFC on their way to a thumping 4-0 victory at neighbours Ossett United.

Second half goals from Amir Berchil, Luke Parkin and Al Keita completed the rout and it could have been more but for former Pewits keeper Alexs Petrovic who turned in a fine display.

Emley remain as Northern Premier League Division 1 East leaders, inflicting pain in the rain on bottom club Ossett United in front of a bumper crowd of 771.

Ossett only held out for 11 minutes before Emley took the lead. Donae Lawrence beat a defender and played a ball into Parkin, who saw his shot deflected into the path of Sorhaindo who smashed past Petrovic to notch his first Emley goal.

Parkin, Chris Dawson, Sorhaindo and Berchil all gave Petrovic a testing time as the leaders outclassed the home side and it was only the half-time whistle that brought relief to Ossett with the scoreline somehow still only 1-0.

Any faint hopes of an Ossett fightback were quickly extinguished in the rain as Emley made it 2-0 in the 51st minute.

A great ball from Dawson found Berchil on the left. He sprung the offside trap and found a fine finish inside the near post.

The contest may have been over and there was a feeling that Emley could and would go on and post a big score now as Ossett simply had no answer.

It was one-way traffic but Petrovic did his best to stem the tide. It was only in the latter stages of the game that Emley put the gloss on the scoreline that their performance deserved.

Parkin got the third in the 79th minute when he picked up the ball 18 yards out, took a steadying touch and rifled a shot into the back of the net.

Sub Al Keita, who set up Parkin’s goal, scored the last one himself when he fired home in stoppage time.

An eighth win in 11 league outings puts Emley two points clear at the top and Emley take on Wombwell Main in the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Cup on Tuesday October 15 at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground (7.45).
