Kirklees College students and staff from the Hair and Beauty, Barbering, ESOL, Media and Foundation departments worked together to organise a fundraising event to raise money for Epilepsy Action – a charity that improves the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy.
As part of their fundraising activities, students and staff did manicures, ladies’ hairstyling, gents’ haircuts, a bake sale, luxury raffle and balloon lucky dip which managed to raise a total of £1,000 for the charity.
Tracy Mangan, winner of ‘Yorkshire’s Best Barber’, also attended the event. She delivered an inspirational presentation about succeeding in a male-dominated industry and performed countless demonstrations, giving the students top tips on how to better themselves professionally.
Tracy is a long-term supporter of the college and has worked with the Hair and Beauty department previously.
Students and staff from all departments enjoyed the lively atmosphere and are looking forward to the next fundraising event at college.
Nick Stephenson, barbering lecturer at Kirklees College, said: “All the staff and students involved loved the day and are proud to have contributed to a worthwhile charitable cause.
“The Good for Me, Good for FE campaign has allowed our students to understand the importance of contributing to the local community through fundraising initiatives and using their skills to create meaningful change in the local community.”
