Hollywood has come to Huddersfield – and anyone can own a piece of movie history.

Just Movies in Market Avenue opened in June last year but is something of a hidden gem.

The shop is crammed with movie memorabilia, sci-fi stuff, horror merch, cinema posters, board games and figures.

Owner Indi Singh, 45, also specialises in rare Japanese imports of music vinyl and has classic vinyl records from the likes of Elvis, The Beatles, Queen and…Wham!

Indi loves the 80s and 90s and has everything from The Goonies and Gremlins to Marvel and Rambo. The shop has stacks of rare signed items from the movie world and is the second biggest dealer in signed artwork by American comic book legend Stan Lee.

Avid collector Indi said the shop came about because he simply had too much stuff!

“It came to a point where I had a container full of items and I just knew I was never going to be able to display it all,” he said.

“I realised that I couldn’t keep it hidden away and I had to do something about it. Then one day I came up with this hare-brained idea to open my own shop.”

Indi didn’t waste any time and quit his job at Syngenta and opened Just Movies selling some of the stuff he’d collected over the last 30 years.

His business quickly grew through word of mouth as collectors realised there was something special in Huddersfield.

“People haven’t seen anything like this shop, not even in the big cities,” he said. “We have a niche and lots of rarities and people love to come back as the stock changes all the time.”

Indi buys from everywhere and has built relationships with manufacturers. His biggest seller is Chucky horror dolls, which people can’t get enough of.

Original cinema posters are also popular. Indi has film posters from the 70s, 80s and 90s through to the present day.
Japanese LaserDiscs complete with obi strips also have customers coming back through the door.

Indi, who lives in Springwood, bumped into an old friend he hadn’t seen in 15 years. It turned out he was living in Japan and shared Indi’s passion for 80s and early 90s movies. The friend now sources items in Japan giving Indi more hard-to-find stock to keep his customers happy.

Just Movies is a best-kept secret but is now big on social media thanks to the efforts of budding journalist Ben Domville who works with Indi to promote the business.

The next step for Just Movies is building its online business and Indi added: “We’ve brought Hollywood to Huddersfield and now we want to get out to the masses!”

Just Movies can be found at 1 Market Avenue, Huddersfield, HD1 2BB, or find them on TikTok or Instagram.
