Joe Skarz scored a goal and was sent off in his first game of the season as Golcar United lost 3-2 at Knaresborough on Saturday.

The former Huddersfield Town defender, who had missed the club’s opening matches due to injury, put Golcar ahead in the 2nd minute with a trademark free-kick.

Knaresborough equalised in the 26th minute when Cameron Bedford got on the end of a free-kick to head home.

Skarz was shown a straight red in the 37th minute after bringing down Knaresborough’s Danny Edwards.

Things got worse for Golcar two minutes later as the hosts took the lead when Edwards headed in from a deep cross at the back post to make it 2-1 at the break.

Knaresborough stretched their lead against the 10 men in the 73rd minute when Nathan Cartman found the net.

Golcar struck back two minutes later as Dan Naidole made it 3-2 to set up a nervy final 15 minutes but the Weavers went down to their second defeat of the season.
