Holy comic book heroes, Batman! The Force will be with you if you beam down into Huddersfield town centre in July.
Huddersfield BID is staging Huddersfield’s first-ever outdoor comic con Get Your Geek On which takes place on Saturday and Sunday July 23 and 24.
It’s a must for comic book and sci-fi fans and there’s a chance to learn how to handle a lightsaber with none other than Jedi master himself Andrew Lawden.
Andrew, who was Liam Neeson’s stand-in stunt double on the set of Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, is also hosting An Audience With event on Friday July 22 (6pm-8pm) to kick off the weekend.
Jedi training sessions are being held on the Saturday and Sunday and must be booked. The cost is £10 plus booking fee.
At various locations around the town there will be a host of merchandise stalls and activities and the chance to get up close to some real-life superheroes, cos-play characters and movie cars.
Batman, Captain America and Spider-Man will mingle with the crowds and there’s also an outdoor cinema.
The movie event on Saturday evening, hosted by the Lawrence Batley Theatre, will show a family-friendly screening of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse followed by the classic 80s movie Ghostbusters.
Huddersfield BID manager Sam Sharp said: “The outdoor comic con event is the first of its kind in Huddersfield and it’s set to be a brilliant event for families and comic con fans of all ages.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting an event like this for the first time and we’re aiming to get the whole town involved. We’ll be celebrating all things weird, wonderful, nostalgic and newly-released. It promises to be a great weekend.”
