It’s free admission for the Sykes Cup Final today (Sun August 8) – the Huddersfield Cricket League’s showpiece event.
This year the final will be held at Honley and will be contested between Hoylandswaine and Moorlands, the two sides fighting it out at the top of the Premiership this season.
The cricket League’s media manager Jamie Harrison believes this year’s cup final should be a cracker.
He said: “You always want the best teams to be in the final and these are definitely the best.
“If Moorlands had been a tad more consistent they probably would be above Hoylandswaine in the league. Swaine have had a few weak moments this campaign but their bowling has got them out of a few tricky situations. Moorlands, on the other hand, have lost a few games you think they should have won.
“It is the showpiece final and it’s usually been well attended. With it being free entry a few more people might go.
“You would expect Hoylandswaine to be the favourites. It all depends if they have Leicestershire player Arron Lilley available. He is a very destructive player and it’s those sorts of players that can win you finals.
“The interesting thing is that Moorlands have already beaten Hoylandswaine this season, they will need everyone to step up if they want to beat them in this game to win the cup.”
The match is due to start at 12 noon at Honley Cricket Club.
