Digital innovation was the theme of Huddersfield Unlimited’s second business conference held in the town last week.

More than 50 of the town’s leading businesspeople attended the event at Cathedral House, sponsored by Software as a Service (SaaS) firm Adventoris, creator of the B2B app platform, SwiftCloud.

In attendance were; James Clarkson, CEO of Adventoris, Jim De Jong, head of external sales, Adventoris; Jon Nichols, sales director of Huddersfield AI firm AIMAI; Jon Lee, MD of Sentini Marine; Charles Maltby, programme director for Huddersfield Unlimited; and Sir John Harman, chair of Huddersfield Unlimited.

Huddersfield is increasingly drawing attention on the national stage with over £1 billion of investment heading to the area. This includes the development of a new Radisson Red Hotel at the site of the historic George Hotel and the University of Huddersfield’s National Health Innovation Campus.

Attendees discussed the recent significant investment into the town through the new West Yorkshire Investment Zone and the Station to Stadium Enterprise Corridor initiative, along with the imminent launch of the National Health Innovation Campus later this year.

The TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and the investment into the Huddersfield to Sheffield line was also discussed, with work now well underway at Huddersfield Railway Station.

Speaking of the event, Charles Maltby said: “Once again it was fantastic to see the business community of Huddersfield attend our second Business Forum, embracing digital innovation within our town of Huddersfield.

“Attendees had plenty of opportunities to expand their networks and enjoy refreshments courtesy of Adventoris, our sponsor for the event.

“I know from the people I spoke to, that the overwhelming feeling was one of ‘things are happening’ in Huddersfield and although, like all places, there are challenges, the public investment in to the West Yorkshire Investment Zone and Kirklees Council Station to Stadium Enterprise Corridor is starting to encourage private investment in businesses to help secure the town’s future.”

Jim De Jong, head of external sales at Adventoris, said: “Huddersfield is a great town, filled with many innovative businesses looking to make their own impact.

“It was fantastic to speak with members of the Huddersfield business community about championing the future of digital innovation in our town, and I’m excited for future opportunities for collaboration across the local area.”

John Nicholls, sales director of Slaithwaite-based AIMAI who attended the event, added: “I would like to thank the team at Huddersfield Unlimited for putting on such a great event.

“It was an excellent opportunity for us to connect with local SMEs and talk with them about how AI can help with everyday business operations.”
