Huddersfield RUFC Age Grade Festivals 2022 are a huge success!
Lockwood Park was bursting at the seams with over 50 visiting teams attending the Huddersfield RUFC Age grade festivals of rugby over the last two weekends in March.
It has been four years since the club has been able to host full scale festivals because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 600 boys and girls were welcomed to the Under 7 to Under 9 festival on March 20 and the Under 10 to Under 12 festival on March 27.
This was the first tournament experience for many of the players and the festival organisers were keen to make it a fantastic community rugby experience for players, visitors, coaches, supporters and volunteers.
Age grade organiser Elizabeth Priest said: “The age grade managers and coaches did a brilliant job in ‘rallying the troops’ and Huddersfield’s parent volunteers did the club proud. Events on this scale could not run without ‘many hands’ and the willingness of parents to get involved was overwhelming.
“The children played some great rugby, which was a delight to watch, and many of the visiting coaches commented on the ‘sportsmanship’ and exemplary rugby values displayed by the Huddersfield coaching teams and players.”
Refreshments were provided by the volunteers, including breakfast butties and gallons of tea and coffee from the refreshment cabin!
The event was also an excellent fundraiser and it is hoped they will raise over £4,500 for the age grade cause.
After the event one of the Dinnington coaches emailed his thanks and compliments to the club by saying: “We’ve got quite a few players in our side who have only recently taken up the game, and it was fantastic to show them and their families why rugby, and the community around it is so special.”
Plans for festivals in 2023 are already being made by Huddersfield RUFC.
