Huddersfield Light Opera Company is back at the Lawrence Batley Theatre with another classic fairytale.

Following the success of ‘Shrek the Musical’, the opera company premieres Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ from April 10-16.

The beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue Prince Eric in the human world and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs.

But the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs help from her friends – Sebastian the crab, Flounder the fish and Scuttle the seagull to restore order.

There are lots of magical songs led by musical director Scott Kitchen including the Oscar winning song ‘Under the Sea’, sung by Sebastian played by Nimi Oyeyemi.

Nimi is studying law at the University of Huddersfield and is appearing for the first time at the LBT. It definitely won’t be his last! Ariel’s rendition of ‘Part of Your World’ is sung to perfection by Jessica Faye.

Starring alongside Jessica and Nimi are the very talented cast; Dominic Comber-Moccia, Sharon Whitehead, Grahame ‘Wizz’ Whitehead, Colin Harris, Ben Maffin, Toby Kershaw, Gemma Armitage, Tom Waltham and Amy Blackburn.

The cast are supported by the wonderful Mersisters and ensemble, beautifully choreographed by Zoë Cook & Pam Strickland.

The stage will be brought to life using digital projections from Broadway Media. This is another first for the Huddersfield Light Opera Company and their talented lighting designer and director Chris Brearley will create that magical world under the sea.

Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the Disney film that was produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker and written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, the stage musical was originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

Tickets for ‘The Little Mermaid’ are available from the Lawrence Batley Theatre by visiting thelbt.org or calling 01484 430528.
