Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club were struggling to put a team together for their latest game against Crossleyans from Halifax however they found three players to battle through the pain barrier to claim victory.
HLTSC comfortably won their latest home fixture in the Kirklees and Calderdale Racketball League to keep themselves at the top of the table with just two fixtures remaining.
All three players from Huddersfield won their matches to nil with each of the players performing well to overpower their opponents.
Keith Campbell (HLTSC) vs Dean Brady
Match 1 (3rd Seeds)
11-3, 11-4, 11-5
Campbell returned to the team this week and produced an excellent display to take each game by a comfortable margin. His years of experience in the squash leagues paid off as he comfortably won 3-0.
Dan Lawton (HLTSC) vs Ash Jahal
Match 2 (2nd seeds)
11-8, 11-5, 11-9
Another great performance from Lawton who produced some epic long rallies and managed to overcome his opponent Ash Jahal.
Whilst Jahal was nimble around court, the movement from Lawton was superior and the first two games were fairly comfortable for him. In the third game the match was a much closer affair with many long rallies. Lawton just had enough stamina to hold off a resurgent Jahal whose charge came a little too late.
Neil Baldwin (HLTSC) vs Neil Perry
Match 3 (1st Seeds)
11-6, 11-2, 11-2
Neil Baldwin is a top racketball player and it showed in his performance against Perry from Old Crossleyans. Baldwin always had the edge over Perry racing to a 5-0 start in the first game. Despite Perry picking up six points in the first game he didn’t come close to Baldwin in the 2nd and 3rd games. Whilst Perry had a few winning moments, it was Baldwin who kept playing the winning shots and putting his Halifax opponents under pressure.
Overall Match score 12-0 to HLTSC.
HLTSC’s final two fixtures are against Queens and Phoenix who are neck and neck with HLTSC at the top of the table.
