Huddersfield Giants Women’s flying winger Amelia Brown has been called into the England Rugby League National Performance Squad.

Amelia, 19, who along with Giants captain Bethan Oates became the first women players to sign professional contracts with the club, has been hailed as one of the brightest young talents in the game.

Amelia joined the Giants in 2021 and was shortlisted for the Betfred Women’s Super League ‘Young Player of the Year’ in 2023, following a stellar season that saw her score hat-tricks against Leeds and Warrington.

Amelia has previously been added to the England Knights Squad but has now been promoted to the senior squad, becoming the second Giant after Bethan Oates in 2022 to receive the call.

Amelia said: “It’s every player’s dream to be able to play for their country in any sport. I’ve not been playing for as long as some of the girls, so I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to learn and develop my game at a high level.

“It’s now great to be able to represent the Giants at national level and to inspire younger players in the community to get involved.”

Huddersfield Giants Women was previously run by the club’s community foundation but in December last year it was transferred to the main club, showing the Giants’ ambition for women’s rugby.

Amelia said: “If we keep building we can become one of the top clubs. We have a young squad and if we all stick together and add new players when need them, we will start to challenge the other teams.”

The Giants have made a number of new signings ahead of the 2024 campaign including: Sam Hulme, Alice Fisher, Jess Harrap, Em Johnstone, Allana Waller, Lauren Waller, Grace Ramsden, Ellie Oldroyd, Paige Webster and Stacey Greenwood.
