It’s the Christmas market in Huddersfield this Saturday (November 30) with great entertainment across the town centre and more than 40 stalls in the brand new events space next to Huddersfield Parish Church.

The market runs from 11am to 4pm across the town from St Peter’s Gardens to the Piazza and will include live music, family entertainment, walkabout acts, creative workshops, real reindeer and a Santa’s Grotto. All the activities, including the Santa’s grotto, will be free.

There will be a Christmas Parade through the town at 3.30pm.

The stalls at St Peter’s Gardens will feature local artisan makers, festive food and refreshments. A live music stage will star choirs and bands from across the district.

The space is available for hire so if anyone has any events they’re looking to host contact the church on 01484 427964 or email office@huddersfieldparishchurch.org

Clr Graham Turner, Cabinet member for regeneration and finance at Kirklees Council, said: “I’m thrilled after months of hard work and partnership working, we have completed part of Huddersfield Blueprint by delivering improvement works to – and surrounding – St Peter’s Gardens.

“Working alongside Huddersfield Parish Church, the events space was opened several weeks ago with a well-received show. I look forward to seeing many more to come, especially over the Christmas period. I’m sure the church will have lots to offer.

“Now we have completed works to Byram Street to improve public access, I really believe more people will want to visit Huddersfield town centre and more businesses will want to utilise this fantastic space, putting us on the right track to support the long-term sustainability of Huddersfield.”

On Saturday The Piazza will play host to creative workshops ranging from making paper lanterns to brightening up Christmas jumpers.

Outside entertainment includes walkabout characters and storytelling every half hour. Workshops will culminate in a Community Winter Parade led by a Jabberwocky and snow fairies, prior to a final musical performance by Rhythm Sticks.

Back by popular demand, a giant snow globe will sit on New Street alongside real-life reindeer while Hepworth Brass Band fill the street with sounds of a traditional Yorkshire Christmas.

Market Place will also feature a snowboarding simulator and mechanical rodeo reindeer.

There is no Christmas lights switch-on event this year but Kirklees Council leader Clr Carole Pattison said there was plenty of fun for everyone.

“This year’s Christmas celebrations are packed full of free, family-friendly festive activities,” she said. “We hope there is something to get everyone into the festive spirit.”
