Welcome to our Huddersfield BID town centre blog where every month BID manager SAM SHARP looks at some of the exciting things going on in the town.

The school holidays are underway and some footfall to businesses within the town will drop, whilst others will appreciate an increase.

I remember the days of having three young children and the prospect of six whole weeks of entertaining them and keeping them from going feral before school started up again in September!

This year we will be once again running our Lego Trail in Huddersfield town centre. We have three new additional models, two of which were built by Charles… who is 82 years young and very kindly gave up his time to build them, so we could continue with the great work we are committing to within the town.

The Lego Trail aims to move visitors around the town, exploring shops and streets they wouldn’t normally frequent and hopefully along the way, they have lunch or a coffee, spend money and return.

The trail will be available via our new town centre app, Hello Huddersfield, which already has 289 signed up users since its launch last month.

The app will feature in all of our events and notifications going forward and will hopefully be used as a go to space for all town centre information.

An exciting new development on the app is on its way in September, which we know will save businesses a lot of money once launched.

In July we ran a digital marketing workshop with Social Progress and Sophie Seddon PR and this was free to levy payers and the feedback from attendees was positive.

We will be running another course in October which will centre around Christmas promotions and raising the profiles of businesses so they stand out amongst all the Christmas offers and ads.

Although Christmas seems to start in August these days, we are giving everyone time to get ready and enjoy the summer now it has finally arrived.

Further dates for the diary are the Lego Play days on August 7 and 21 and OctoberFeast… yes, Huddersfield BID and Kirklees markets are bringing a bit of Bavaria to town.

On October 4, get your lederhosen and steins ready for a night of oompah, local ale and some good old German sausage.
