Welcome to our Huddersfield BID town centre blog where every month BID manager SAM SHARP looks at some of the exciting things going on in the town.

Raise a glass to Huddersfield Beer Week which starts on Saturday July 15 and runs until Saturday July 22!

Huddersfield has a proud history when it comes to brewing beer and it’s that history that Huddersfield Beer Week is celebrating.

Huddersfield BID is excited to support local pubs, beerhouses and brewers – and beer lovers will be spoiled for choice with the many venues taking part across town.

And we have a beer trail too so you can check in at any – or all! – of the 18 venues taking part. If you scan the QR code at eight of the venues you qualify for a free commemorative Huddersfield Beer Week beer glass!

To take part in the beer trail all you have to do is download the Loyal Free app which you can find in the app store on your smart phone. It’s easy to download and sign up.

Once you’re in, find the Huddersfield Beer Week 2023 Trail and you’ll see a list of the 18 venues taking part. They are:

The Vulcan

The Lord Wilson

The Warehouse

BrewDog Huddersfield

Showtime

The Northern Quarter

Lawrence Batley Theatre

The Cherry Tree

The Parish

Magic Rock Brewing Co

The Sportsman Beerhouse

Arcade Beers

Head of Steam

The County Beerhouse

The Grove

Mallinson’s Brewing Co

Beer Ink

Zapato

Huddersfield Beer Week is more than just beer, of course. There’s live music, tap takeovers and meal and beer deals to tempt your taste buds.

So what’s on? There’s a Huddersfield brewers tap takeover at The Sportsman Beerhouse on July 14-16 and they’ve got the brilliant Wadcutter Blues playing live from 9pm on July 15. Brauerei Rodenbach will host a guided tasting event on July 20 and Cornwall’s Verdant Brewing Co takes over the taps on July 21-22.

Beer Ink have a USA Tap Takeover on July 15-16 while The County Beerhouse will be showcasing the best of the Colne Valley with Empire Brewing, the Rat Brewery, Zapato and Riverhead taking over the taps.

The County is also going to be pairing beers with delicious small plates with such as coriander and lime chicken and cheesy nachos and County chilli. Small plates will be £6 each or two for £10.

At the end of the week Arcade Beers will host a closing party on Saturday July 22 (8pm until late) with Funk and Soul with Lennie.

In other news, Huddersfield BID’s Get Your Geek On comic con was a huge success last month. We brought thousands of people into the town centre and the feedback we’ve had has been amazing. Thank you to everyone who made it such a great day.

The footfall figures back up the feedback too. Footfall on the day was 132,910, up from 118,282 on our 2022 event. This is also an increase of 9% of the equivalent Saturday last year.

The footfall figures are derived from data collected by the 30 Kirklees Council CCTV cameras around the town centre.

It’s non-stop for the BID team as we have another big crowd-puller coming up, running throughout August.

Starting on August 1 we have the ever-popular Huddersfield Lego Trail with 14 Lego models to find around the town centre.

This year we have three new models including a Harry Potter one! It’s free to take part and find all the models and claim a prize from BID’s Hello Huddersfield! shop in Market Avenue. As with the Beer Trail, you can take part on the Loyal Free app.

It’s an exciting summer for sure!
