Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith has expanded its Commercial Property Team in recent times, adding further expertise and support for its clients, both local and national, and has ambitious plans for further growth in the coming years.
The Commercial Property Team, headed by partner James Burgess, works with clients from across the region and the UK from both the public and private sectors on a variety of commercial projects and portfolios.
James completed his training at a well-known national law firm based in the North-East of England, before moving on to work for a niche commercial practice in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where he undertook all aspects of commercial property work.
More recently, James was a partner at a well-known South Yorkshire law firm, where he practised commercial property and corporate work. He joined Eaton Smith in April 2020 and took over the reins of the Commercial Property Team in May 2021.
James has extensive knowledge of all aspects of commercial property, including landlord and tenant negotiations, acquisition and disposal, portfolio and estate management, commercial development, secured lending and property and development financing.
Senior solicitor Jamie Humpheson joined Eaton Smith in October 2021 from a regional law firm.
Jamie is a skilled commercial property lawyer, who advises a wide range of clients in a variety of fields. He provides an additional layer of expertise in the charity sector and frequently provides advice upon the property aspects of company sales and acquisitions.
Jamie has worked on a number of notable, high-value projects, most recently a £4,000,000 value lease for an industry-leading client.
Associate solicitor Ian Holdsworth joined Eaton Smith in January 2022. Ian has been qualified for over 40 years and his extensive and varied career has included running his own law firm and estate agency, being a partner for a number of years in a well-known firm of solicitors in Wakefield and, more recently, working with a well-known firm of solicitors in Barnsley.
Ian has extensive experience in commercial property work for individuals, businesses and pension funds including options and promotion agreements, adverse possession claims and prescriptive rights of way.
Due to his love of the outdoors, Ian particularly enjoys dealing with agricultural land, including woodland, which he has purchased and sold for clients throughout England and Wales and in respect of which he is acknowledged as an expert.
Legal assistants Anne Wilson and Justine Boyes both bring valuable experience and expertise to the team.
Justine has been part of the Commercial Property Team at Eaton Smith for over 10 years and provides dedicated support to the team and the firm’s clients, having developed a wealth of experience during her time with the firm.
Anne joined Eaton Smith in January 2021, having worked in the legal sector for almost three decades, a substantial proportion of which was spent working in real estate.
Before joining Eaton Smith, Anne spent several years living in Australia, where she worked for a well-known international law firm in its office in Perth.
Mr Burgess said: “As a firm and as a team we pride ourselves on providing excellent support to all of our clients.
“We are known for our friendly and down-to-earth approach combined with strong and innovative solutions that get results.
“We are incredibly proud of our Commercial Property Team and the work that we undertake for our clients both locally and nationally and have ambitious plans for further growth in the coming years.”
