Holmfirth Civic Hall has had a makeover and a rebrand after lockdown and wants to be the ‘go to’ venue in the Holme Valley.

Now known as The Civic, the building in Huddersfield Road is run as a charity by Holmfirth Civic Hall Community Trust, which was set up in 2017.

For much of the last two years the venue has been closed but the trustees have used that time to develop a plan for the future and refurbish the facilities.

Business development manager Dawn Whiteley MBE said: “It has been a difficult time for everyone and with the building closed for large parts of the last two years it has certainly been a strange time for The Civic.

“But we haven’t been idle. Many regular users of the building will know that fundraising has been undertaken to support a project to replace outdated toilets, to create a new disabled toilet, storage area and an office. Those works are well underway, with the toilets almost complete.

“A new brand and design has also been launched. There is a new website and this new brand is being incorporated into all communications and marketing.

“There are exciting plans for wider improvements of the building and The Civic now wants to share those along with ways in which local people and businesses can get involved.”

The Civic’s vision is to make the space an inclusive, cohesive and sustainable community asset and Dawn added: “The Trust is keen for The Civic to be the ‘go to’ venue in the valley and beyond for all those special events and activities.

“The Trust are working hard to bring The Civic back to the attention of the local community and to raise its profile.

“Whilst the building is beautiful, it is old and takes a lot to keep it running and that’s why the help of local people and businesses is being sought.”

An open evening is planned on Thursday October 14 from 4.30pm to 7pm. There will be a short presentation at 5pm which will be repeated at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to drop in.
