People have been asked to make a donation so patients in our local hospitals on Christmas Day will receive a gift.

The appeal has been set up by the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity after realising they care for many lonely, isolated and vulnerable people at Christmas.

Launching the appeal for people to give what they can – a fiver would be great – they state: “Christmas is a time to spend with loved ones and it can be particularly difficult for patients receiving care in hospital who aren’t able to go home over the festive period.

“Giving a gift is a really special and poignant way of supporting those less fortunate at Christmas. We have a number of patients who may not receive gifts or visitors at Christmas so, each year, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity works really hard to try and support all patients in hospital so no-one misses out.

“At Christmas time, it’s often the small things that can make an amazing difference.”

The appeal helps every patient at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital and a donation of just £5 could buy a giftset, an interactive toy for a child, a festive tin of biscuits or a festive sock surprise.

The target is £5,000 and the appeal has so far raised over £3,000.
