Charities in Kirklees have joined a national celebration of the vital work played by trustees.
As part of Trustees’ Week, Third Sector Leaders Kirklees (TSL) wants to raise the profile of this important voluntary role and encourage more people to get involved.
Did you know that a charity could not operate without a team of trustees? Trustees are a small voluntary team who help shape the direction of a charity and make sure it is delivering its aims and purpose.
Trustees usually attend quarterly meetings and may also get involved in areas they might be interested in such as marketing, fundraising, HR, finance or health and safety.
You don’t need any special skills or qualifications to be a trustee – just a passion for the charity you are involved with.
Trustees come from all backgrounds and walks of life and you can fit a trustee role in around other commitments such as a full-time job.
Huddersfield businessman Moin Valli, owner and founder of Valli Opticians, is a trustee with sight loss charity Outlookers.
Moin said: “For me, becoming a trustee gave me the opportunity to play a role in a completely different organisation to my day job.
“I love working with incredibly talented and humble people, helping to shape a charity that I am passionate about, and having a real say in issues that are meaningful to me.”
Becky Bracey, volunteer services lead at Third Sector Leaders Kirklees, said: “Trustees’ Week is a time to thank all the amazing trustees in Kirklees as well as recruit new trustees to support local charities.
“Taking on a role as a charity trustee can be extremely rewarding. You are making a huge impact as well as learning new skills and the opportunity to widen your networks. We would encourage anyone interested in becoming a trustee to get in touch.”
