A new social group set up in Huddersfield for girls who need more friends now has more than 200 members.

Girls Chat is the brainchild of 23-year-old Ashleigh Schofield who realised that some young women can be isolated, lonely or simply need a wider social circle.

So she set up the group called Girls Chat on social media in March this year and its gone from strength to strength with 200 ladies aged from 18 to their 60 already joining.

Its next major event will be a Christmas party on Friday, December 6, at Peel St Social in Marsden at 7pm. Tickets are £15 which includes a glass of fizz and a couple of raffle tickets and those who attend can buy street food at the venue on the night. There are 30 tickets left and raffle prizes include bracelets, brunch vouchers and a photography package.

Ashleigh, of Marsden, said: “I’m so proud of the community we’ve built through Girls Chat. With over 200 amazing women in our group chat we support each other daily, share milestones and create mini groups for interests like new mums, running and book clubs.”

When Ashleigh set the group up she said: “After talking to a lot of ladies I understand not everyone has a set group of girls or loads of friends and I really want to change that.

“Whether girls are new in town, looking to expand their social circle or simply seeking like-minded souls, they’ll find their tribe here.

“Life’s about spontaneous nights out, making memories you’ll never forget along with new friends, uncontrollably laughing and so much more.

“I wanted to set up a group where no-one feels alone and we’re just living the best life we can. Our meet ups, nights out, chilled evenings and girls chats are just the beginning. It’s a space created just for us girlies to connect, share stories, make plans and, most importantly, form lasting friendships.”

The group’s September meet-up was a walk along Huddersfield Narrow Canal to Zapato Brewing between Marsden and Slaithwaite for a drink and food.

Upcoming events include a dance workshop on Saturday, November 9, and a mood board workshop at Sass Wellbeing Studio in Marsden in January where people can plan their goals for the year ahead.
