Huddersfield U3A celebrated its 40th anniversary with a series of walks.

The walks, organised by Diana Wilson and her team of volunteers, were three routes which all started and finished at Greenhead Park.

Level 1 was a pleasant, steady walk round the park on level ground so was suitable for people with mobility aids.

Level 2 was a figure of eight taking in contrasting areas either side of the park while level 3 was a circular walk of at least five miles to Longwood Edge. Each group returned to the park’s Conservatory Cafe where there was a display by the Friends of Greenhead Park on the great work they do to keep the park looking so good.

A 40th anniversary celebratory dinner was held at Greenhead Masonic Hall on Friday September 27 where there was entertainment and prizes awarded for the winners of members’ competitions such as poetry, photography, art and crafts and also a display of the short-listed photography, art-painting and crafts entries for people to select the ultimate winners.

The new Huddersfield U3A term has now started but there are still plenty of courses for people to join ranging from carving, quilt-making and dressmaking to learning French, German or Spanish through to yoga, table tennis, walking or cycling.
