It’s been an election “day” like none other in Kirklees with voting taking place on Thursday but the results not being announced until Saturday.
Due to social distancing counting staff have been separated and spaced out at the count venue, Cathedral House in Huddersfield, and the usual hubbub and excitement is missing.
The votes were verified on Friday and the total number of votes cast and the turnouts can be seen below.
The votes will be counted in three sessions today (Saturday) and the results released throughout the day.
Here’s when your result is expected:
Session 1: 8.45am-11.15am – Dewsbury South, Almondbury, Crosland Moor & Netherton, Liversedge & Gomersal, Cleckheaton, Lindley, Greenhead and Ashbrow.
Session 2: 12.30pm-3.30pm: Holme Valley North, Batley West, Dewsbury West, Dewsbury East, Mirfield, Dalton, Batley East and Newsome.
Session 3: 4.15pm-7.15pm: Birstall & Birkenshaw, Golcar, Holme Valley South, Heckmondwike, Kirkburton, Denby Dale, Colne Valley.
The current make-up of the council is: Labour: 32; Conservative 16; Lib Dem 10; Green 3; Independent (Holme Valley) 3; Independent 2; Independent (Dewsbury) 1. There are two vacancies to be filled.
The parties defending the seats up for re-election this time are: Labour 12; Conservative 7; Lib Dem 4; Green 1; Independent 1.
Three group leaders are defending their seats – Clr Shabir Pandor (Lab, Batley West); Clr Andrew Cooper (Green, Newsome) and Clr Charles Greaves (Ind, Holme Valley North).
It could be Saturday evening before all the results are in.
