A village school has received a £2,000 cash boost for the development of its outdoor play and learning facilities.

Honley Junior, Infant and Nursery School received the money from the Miller Homes Community Fund which provides funding to charities and community groups.

The Friends of Honley Junior, Infant and Nursery School received £2,000 to help refurbish the school’s outdoor areas as part of a schedule of work that will see play, garden and learning areas created to benefit all its children, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Allison Senior, a spokesperson from the Friends group, said: “Our outdoor areas have seen better days, and we are very focused on raising the £5,000 needed to complete the project.

“This donation from Miller Homes will make a huge difference and help us to create the outdoor areas we dream of which are so important in providing a well-balanced education for our children.

“Thank you to the Miller Homes team for choosing us, and we look forward to welcoming them to our school once the project is completed.”

Debbie Whittingham, regional sales director for Miller Homes Yorkshire, said: “Schools really struggle to be able to fund projects like this, and it’s great to see active parent, teacher and community groups volunteering their time to fundraise so children at the school can have great facilities to enjoy.

“Once again, we had some superb applications, showcasing amazing projects across Yorkshire, however, we felt Honley school were a worthy winner in their wish to restore their outdoor areas for all children to be able to learn and enjoy.”

To continue supporting communities throughout the region, a further £3,000 has also been donated by Miller Homes to other charities across South and West Yorkshire.

Applications are invited twice yearly to the Miller Homes Community Fund with the next round opening for applications on September 16.
