Officials at Holmfirth Cricket Club are celebrating as their under 11s and under 13s won their junior leagues.

The last time that happened was in 2011 and this success proves that junior cricket is thriving in Holmfirth.

The under 11s had a close battle throughout the season with Scholes and Upperthong but the Holmfirth juniors came out as the winners. They had one more win than Scholes across the season which made the difference.

Two players who stood out in particular were Billy Clee and Albie Wilkinson who were in the league’s top three and four scorers. Billy was also in the top four for wickets taken too.

Meanwhile, the club’s under 13s had a squad of just nine players for the season but they performed well beyond expectations with help from the under 11s to make up the numbers.

The season went down to the last match where they had to beat Thurstonland, who gave them a great game, 114 v 99. That victory saw Holmfirth pip Hoylandswaine to the title by just two points.

Holmfirth’s Alexander Ridler was the fifth best batter in the league and best wicketkeeper, with George Cowen joint eighth in league wickets.
