A church is hosting a concert by Hepworth Brass Band to raise money for its organ repair fund.

St David’s Church at Holmbridge presents a special Mother’s Day concert on Sunday March 19 at 3pm. A delicious interval cream tea will be served to complement a programme of music to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Sandy Wise from Holmbridge Church said: “The organ of St David’s Church was built in 1838 and, despite servicing, it is in desperate need of full urgent restoration otherwise it will be lost forever.

“Its sound is a shadow of its former self, with many notes missing or unpredictable and it is increasingly difficult to play, even by St David’s skilled organist. Specialist surveys have detailed the replacing, rebuilding and repairs needed, including cleaning and retuning of all 744 organ pipes.

“Without this major work, costing upwards of £70,000, the organ will not be there for future generations to celebrate weddings, funerals, christenings and other special occasions.”

The church has launched an organ repair appeal, with a programme of fundraising events, including a series of concerts showcasing local talent and a ‘Sponsor an Organ Pipe’ JustGiving campaign, where people can sponsor a tiny pipe for £10 or any amount up to £1,000 for the beautifully painted largest façade pipes.

Tickets for the Mother’s Day Concert are available from Sandy Wise on 07718 762411 and online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/hepworth-band Tickets cost £13 including the cream tea and £10 without.
