Hattrick hero Ash Flynn reckons it’s Golcar United’s team spirit and togetherness that has fuelled their unbeaten start to the season.

The Weavers came through their biggest test of the campaign so far winning 6-2 away at North West Counties Division One North leaders Pilkington FC.

On paper it had all the makings of a tight game between two of the stand-out sides in the league but Golcar made a good start and dominated throughout, leapfrogging Pilkington to go back clear at the top.

Flynn, August’s Player of the Month, is firing again in September and now heads the league’s goalscoring charts with 15 goals.

Modest Flynn said his award – and all the goals – wouldn’t have been possible without the form of his teammates.

“It’s good to be scoring,” he said. “We have some good players here who keep supplying me with chances.”

Golcar have won seven and drawn three in 10 games so far but successive draws put added pressure on the visit to Pilkington.

Flynn added: “We needed three points as we’d drawn the last two. We knew it would be a tough place to go and they were top of the league. Hopefully the unbeaten run can carry on but we need to take it one game at a time.”

The secret is simple. “We are confident and we’re a close set of lads,” he said. “We just have a close set of friends all working for the management.”

Golcar got off to the perfect start as Dan Naidole opened the scoring in the second minute. Flynn then pounced twice to make it 3-0 before the home side pulled a goal back and it was 3-1 with just half-an-hour gone.

Naidole, another top performer this term, grabbed his second before Buddy Cox made it 5-1 at the break.

Pilkington scored again in the 58th minute but Golcar were in control and Flynn bagged his second hattrick of the season to make it 6-2 10 minutes from time.

Golcar take a break from league action and face Wythenshawe Amateurs in the FA Vase Trophy 2nd qualifying round at the Skye Direct Stadium on Saturday September 25.
