A big crowd is expected as Golcar United and Emley AFC put proud unbeaten runs on the line as they go head-to-head in a ‘derby’ clash on Tuesday (March 21).

The match is at Golcar’s Skye Direct Stadium (7.45) and the home side’s nine-match unbeaten run will face a severe test from an Emley side which has won the last nine and is unbeaten in 10 matches.

Golcar warmed up for third-placed play-off chasers Emley by doing them a favour in taking points off second-placed Winterton Rangers with a 1-1 draw on Saturday, thanks to an 89th minute equaliser by Joe Skarz.

On the goal, player-coach Skarz said: “It was a nice feeling obviously with it being in the last minute, it was sweeter because of that. I thought we deserved something from the game so to take a point was the least we deserved.

“It was a scrappy game on a difficult surface which meant there was no real quality throughout.

“However, I think it showed how much we’ve improved when we go away to a club second in the league and are disappointed in how we played overall – and we could have won it.”

Golcar are in eighth position in their first season in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, a year on from Emley’s first season after promotion when they too found winning form in the latter half of the campaign.

Skarz added: “We are on 49 points now. I looked at Emley’s tally last year and they got 51 points, so we can beat that. We want to get as many points as we can, that’s our focus.

“When I scored I wasn’t aware how things affected Emley, I was just happy we took something from the game. My only concern is Golcar United and whatever happens elsewhere is irrelevant to us really.

“Tuesday will be a good game against a good side. It will be great for the area of Huddersfield. Hopefully we’ll get a big crowd in with it being the international break, it’s spring and an exciting game in store with two sides going for it. As a club we can’t wait.”

  • The two sides face eachother again at the Skye Direct Stadium on Friday April 21 (7.45) in the semi-final of the League Cup. The date for the game has been changed from Saturday April 22.
