Golcar United Women FC have shared a video aimed at highlighting the sexism that women and girls still endure playing football.
Members of the squad have revealed some of the comments and abuse they hear from some of those watching.
The campaign is called #changethestory and it’s all about women’s football and the abuse women seem to receive for just playing the sport they love.
Golcar United Women FC manager Nathan Martin said: “All the comments you’ll hear in the video are real examples of the sexism or abuse our own players have experienced.
“Our aim is to highlight that this is still happening and we want to do as much as we can to finally put a stop to this.
“We want to spread the message as far as we can, change the narrative, change the culture and bring it to the forefront of everyone’s mind.”
The video has been shared across the club’s social media and Nathan said: “If we can make just one small-minded person stop, think and change their behaviour then we will have made a difference.
“Attitudes need to change and the abuse has to stop.”
Golcar United Women are supporting UN Women’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
