Emley AFC lost for only the third time in the league this season as they were defeated 1-0 by Knaresborough Town at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Tuesday.

The loss leaves the Pewits 5th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division and currently six points behind second-placed Winterton Rangers. They do have two games in hand on some of the teams above them in the table.

A gale force wind ruined the match as a spectacle and it was a smash-and-grab job by the visitors from North Yorkshire.

Knaresborough substitute James Hampson hadn’t been on the field that long when he cracked a long distance shot that flew in off the post for what proved to be the match winner.

The game ended 1-0 in what was a frustrating night for Emley who couldn’t take advantage of one of their games in hand. The Pewits are at home again on Saturday (February 4) as they take on Maltby Main (3.00). Richard Tracey’s men will be hoping to grab their first home league win of the year.
