Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival has had to be called off for the second successive year, organisers Huddersfield Live have announced.
Organisers said the festival – in St George’s Square in August – was being postponed until 2022. Last year a virtual event went ahead online.
The decision had been made with a “heavy heart” and a spokesman said: “The uncertainty of the current situation with the pandemic has left us with no other option.
“Over the last 12 months everyone has been part of this Covid journey and we will not jeopardise all the continued work, dedication and heartfelt determination everyone has endured to putting an end to this pandemic and keeping eachother safe.
“The safety and well-being of everyone has to come first. YOU are too important to us as we look to protect our futures together.
“We would like to thank you all for your continued support. We do have some plans up our sleeves though to help keep you and local businesses smiling safely as we emerge from this lockdown so please join us as we are still here working hard for everyone, with you and Huddersfield in our hearts.”
Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival is not the only August tradition that has taken the decision to postpone again this year.
Emley Show – which dates back 120 years – has also cancelled its 2021 show due to the ongoing pandemic.
Of course, Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival will return in a BIG way once it is safe to do so. Other local community events have also been postponed since March 2020, including the ‘MarshFest’ Live Music & Family Fun Day in either July or August of each year, held within the splendid grounds of The Ukrainian Club off of the A629 Edgerton / Halifax Road and now in its fifth year. All proceeds being donated to The Welcome Centre and Food Bank in Huddersfield as their largest regular fund-raising event. Organisers: Marcus Henfrey and Stuart Bethel of Marsh, Edgerton and Greenhead.
