A florist run by a former police officer has won the Eaton Smith Solicitors Business of the Month Award.

Elland-based EarthThings was established in 1993 and current owner Lisa Parr worked there as a teenage Saturday girl.

Lisa went on to work for West Yorkshire Police for almost 20 years and returned to take over the business in 2022.

The business has grown from one member of staff to four and turnover tripled. When Lisa took over in 2022 there were only five weddings booked. In 2023 the business supplied flowers for 60 weddings and has booking into 2025.

In addition to winning the Business of the Month Award, EarthThings also won West Yorkshire Wedding Florist of the Year 2023 at the Northern Enterprise Awards and Florist of the Year 2024 at the Corporate Live Wire Innovation & Excellence Awards.

Lisa said of the latest award: “What we do is a real team effort and so I congratulate the team at EarthThings for another validation of what they do for our lovely customers.”

Ben Jackson, partner at Eaton Smith and chair of the judging panel, said: “It was a real pleasure welcoming Lisa to the office to present her award.

“The judges and I loved the story she told of starting as a flower girl and years later returning to the shop she loves to take over as director and begin this new journey which is proving to be a very successful one.”

Ben was joined on the judging panel by Martin Hathaway (Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce), Annie Bradley (Department of Business & Trade), Danny McAllister (Simpson Wood) and Ian Gostellow (Clough Corporate Solutions).
