Golcar United’s promotion celebrations continue on Easter Monday as the team returns to action just 48 hours after the dramatic play-off final victory over Holker Old Boys.
The players will parade the play-off trophy ahead of the First Division Cup third round tie against Ilkley Town at the Skye Direct Stadium (3.00).
After a long, hard season and some long, hard celebrating it’s likely that Golcar will give a chance to some of the squad players.
Golcar chairman Peter Gledhill has barely come down from the emotional high of the weekend. The club only turned semi-professional three seasons ago and two of those seasons were curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“To do what we have done is nothing short of a miracle,” he said. “The scenes on Saturday were immense. To a man the team played to their maximum – it was a team effort and it’s impossible to pick any individual out – and the fans have been absolutely brilliant.”
The main image above shows the four Golcar United trustees with the play-off trophy. They are (from L-R) secretary Ben Senior, chairman Peter Gledhill, president Ian Whitehead and trustee Andy Naylor. Between them they have a combined 150 years of service to the club.
