It’s Marsden Jazz Festival next weekend and it’s another event absolutely jam-packed with music … most of it free.

The festival from Friday, October 11 to Sunday, October 13 is spread over venues ranging from Marsden’s Mechanics Hall, St Bartholomews Church, pubs and the bandstand in Marsden Park to Zapato Brewing on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath between Marsden and Slaithwaite which will have its own jazz tent.

Running alongside the festival is an anti-racism fundraising weekend presented by the Pool Club based at Marsden Royal British Legion to support Love Music Hate Racism and Immigration and Asylum Support Kirklees (IASK).

The Legion has music on all weekend with tickets just £8 for three days.

At the main jazz festival music ranges from swing bands, soul, funk and jazz through to reggae, blues and Irish music and there will even be jazz music on the shuttle canal boat from Marsden to Tunnel End.

Friday night is headlined by Malcolm Strachan, founding member of the UK’s premier funk band/horn section The Haggis Horns who has toured and recorded with Jess Glynne, Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jamiroquai, Lou Donaldson, The New Mastersounds, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and many more.

There will be a craft fair in the Parochial Hall on Saturday.

The music starts at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday and goes through until late on Saturday night and early evening on Sunday.
