Despite a gutsy performance from Emley AFC on Saturday, they were defeated 3-2 in the league by Thackley away from home.
Thackley were straight out of the blocks with Owen Murphy making the most of a corner that wasn’t cleared. In the melee he poked the ball home to give the hosts an early lead in just five minutes.
It wasn’t until the 23rd minute when Emley equalised. The goal came from out of nowhere, as Jimmy Eyles lobbed Luke Wilson the Thackley keeper from fifteen-or-so yards out to score.
It wasn’t long until Thackley took the lead again with a rasping deflected shot from Ben Grech-Brooksbank in the 31st minute. Emley keeper Sam Kelly had already committed to the original line of the shot, as it was deflected he was left stranded and could only watch the ball spin into the net.
The hosts went in to the interval winning 2-1.
The second half started like the first with the home side scoring first. An unmarked Albert Ibrahim was able to fire in Thackley’s third goal, the ball flying past the lunging defenders and Kelly’s reach.
Emley grabbed a goal back on the 65th minute when Max Tweddle picked up the ball just over twenty yards out and blasted in a screamer to send the travelling support into a frenzy and making the score 3-2.
Although the away side had a few chances to make the score level the game finished 3-2 to Thackley.
The defeat leaves Emley in 18th position, one place and two points above the drop zone.
Tomorrow night Emley welcome Albion Sports of Bradford to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground a 7.45pm kick where they’ll hope to pick up some much needed points.
