James Walshaw bagged a brace – and Joe Jagger scored another penalty – as Emley won 3-0 at Winterton Rangers to remain second in the league.

The Pewits are five points behind leaders North Ferriby in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division after a dominant display.

The win now extends the Pewits’ unbeaten run to 19 games in all competitions and it also saw Jagger reach the 20-goal mark for the season.

The first half was goalless but within 10 minutes of the restart Jagger broke down the left wing and put in a cross to Walshaw who was at the back post to nod the ball home and make it 1-0.

Winterton were then reduced to 10 men when they had a player sent off for a second bookable offence.

Emley scored their second goal on the 75th minute when Walshaw tapped home. Emley sealed the game when Iyrwah Gooden was felled in the box and Jagger – who else? – despatched the penalty for his 20th goal of the season.

The Pewits are again in action on Tuesday night as they visit Frickley before their FA Vase second round tie against Blackpool’s Squires Gate on Saturday.
