Golcar United’s attacking midfielder Dan Naidole insists that the team will be prepared for whatever Holker Old Boys can throw at them in the North West Counties Division One North play-off final on Saturday.
The playmaker has scored 25 goals this season and kept his cool to slot home one of the successful penalty shoot-out spotkicks that helped Golcar edge out AFC Blackpool in the play-off semi-final last weekend.
Promotion was the aim at the start of the season and Naidole said: “The job isn’t done yet. Holker are a solid team. We’ve been there this season and we know what they are about.
“We couldn’t celebrate too much last weekend because the main game is this week and that’s what I told the lads. Training has been intense because everyone wants a shirt for the final. We just have to go there now and get the job done.”
Looking back at the Blackpool game, Naidole added: “A lot of people put time and effort into getting things ready for the Blackpool game. We see it when we go training, there is someone always here doing something. It was the club’s biggest game in its history but luckily we have an even bigger game coming up.
“The results haven’t been good over the last 10 games so we knew going into the Blackpool game how tough it was going to be. They are a good side who had beaten us twice in the regular season and so it was good to get one over on them.”
Boss Ash Connor echoed Naidole’s thoughts on how tough the final at Cumbria-based Holker will be.
He said: “Holker is a tough place to go and they have been the best team bar Bury that we’ve played this season.
“But we go into every game giving it everything we have and Saturday’s game is no different. We want to finish the job and complete a magnificent season.”
