Golcar United Women have started their new campaign with a bang and manager Nathan Martin couldn’t be more pleased with the progress the team has made.

So far they have played three games this season and won all three, conceding only three goals and scoring 26. Yes, that’s correct, in just three games they have scored 26 goals!

On the start to the season, Martin said: “The club overall is doing really well. The men’s first team is starting to get back into their stride which is great to see and I couldn’t ask anymore of the women’s team.

“I couldn’t ask for anything better. We have played three games and got three wins which has put us at the top of the league. We have been playing some fabulous football. The club has also created a new under 11s and under 12s girls teams who are in their first ever season.

“The mood around the women’s first team is absolutely buzzing. You can see we are playing with confidence and, most importantly, a smile. The ladies have started amazingly this season and we still have a long way to go but I am really excited to see this team grow and hopefully get Golcar United Women to the level we deserve to play at.”

Golcar’s last performance was certainly the best out of the three games so far this season as they beat Amaranth Crossgates 17-0 at home.

That victory put them firmly at the top of the West Riding County Women’s League Division Two table. So far Golcar have won their fixtures 6-1, 3-2 and 17-0.

On that huge win, Martin said: “The team has put in so much hard work over pre-season and the 17-0 win just shows what a bit of hard work can do.

“The ladies played the perfect game and just blew the opposition away. Seeing this type of performance really has sent confidence waves all around the squad and we are really excited to see what the ladies can achieve throughout this season.

“Overall I can’t fault anyone so far this season, the whole squad has really stepped up and are playing some fabulous football.”

Martin wanted to give special mentions for a few of the players so far this campaign in response to their performances.

He said: “If I had to mention anyone I think firstly newcomer Ellie Womersley has slotted into the team brilliantly. She’s an unbelievable football player, she has pace and skill and her six goals in three games shows how important she will be for us this season.

“Three other new players who have impressed so far have been Ainsley Strickland, Lauren Buckley and Caitlin Caselton. They have brought some great strengths and composure to the team adding to the amazing squad we originally had from last season.

“Lastly, we have to give a shout out to Maddie Walsh, our No9, who is currently on eight goals.

“However, overall I am so pleased and proud of how the whole 21 women in the squad have started this season and I hope we can keep it up.”
